doTerra Essential Oil to Treat Acid Reflux and Heartburn Naturally

Recommendations for a natural alternative to Treat Heartburn and Acid Reflux

Acid reflux

All of us have occasionally felt the painful burning sensation in the chest called heartburn.  Some people, however, experience it on a regularly.  Acid reflux is what causes heart burn and occurs when the liquid content of the stomach (which is acidic) regurgitates or backs up into the esophagus.  Heartburn is the feeling of pain or discomfort in the middle of the chest that sometimes accompanies acid reflux.  It is an indicator that the esophagus is being damaged from the acid.

More technically, gastro esophageal reflux disease, frequently referred to as GERD or acid reflux, is a condition which involves the liquid content of the stomach regurgitating (backing up or refluxing) into the esophagus. .  When we eat, food enters the stomach from the esophagus through a valve (the lower esophageal sphincter).  This valve is made up of muscles around the esophagus and sometimes may not close completely.  This allows acids (bile) and/or food to move back from the stomach into the esophagus.  Sometimes there is a bitter taste, or a taste of a recently eaten food, or a burning sensation in the chest (heart burn).  The liquid can inflame and eventually damage the lining of the esophagus.  If this progresses and happens frequently it becomes GERD.  GERD is a chronic condition.

Heartburn and gastro esophageal reflux can be brought on or worsened by the following:

Use of alcohol,cigarettes /tobacco, obesity, poor posture (slouching).

Fatty and fried foods, chocolate, garlic and onions, drinks with caffeine, acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes, spicy foods, mint flavorings and carbonated drinks,

Eating large meals or eating too close to bedtime.

Some prescription medications such as sedatives, antidepressants, aspirin and ibuprofen.

Conditions such as Hiatal hernia, pregnancy, rapid weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, and motion sickness.

How to treat acid reflux and heartburn naturally using CPTG essential oils and supplements.

Consider the following to treat acid reflux, heartburn naturally:

To Drink:

Alternate drinking peppermint oil and lemon oil in your water all day long on a daily basis (1-2 drops in 12-16 oz. of water).  The peppermint oil aids in digestion and the lemon oil reduces the acid in the stomach, the esophagus and the lining of the throat.

To help heal the esophagus, put a few drops of DigestZen in water and drink it every day.

For a quick fix when you think an episode may occur based on what you have just eaten:  Fill a shot glass with warm water and add a few drops of peppermint.  Or put three drops of lemon oil in the back of the throat and then drink a small glass of water.

Note: Some find peppermint helpful but others find it makes acid reflux worse so you will need to experiment to find what works best for you.

To take in Capsule:

For chronic problem: Put 10 drops of DigestZen and 4 drops of peppermint oil in a gel cap twice a day.  As symptoms subside, reduce the amount of drops in the capsule by half and take two times a day.  Then gradually take only one gel cap a day with 3 drops of DigestZen and one drop of Peppermint.   Depending on the severity of your problem, this could take from several days to several weeks.  Once all symptoms are gone, just continue with alternating drinking peppermint and lemon oil in water all day.

At the onset of an episode, put 3 drops each of peppermint and DigestZen in a gel cap and ingest.

Alternative oils that may be helpful and can be added to a gel cap are ginger, wild orange, frankincense and grapefruit.  Grapefruit contains the highest amount of limonene in all of the citrus oils and limonene is effective for treating acid reflux.

Topical Application:

Rub 4-5 drops of Frankincense or DigestZen on stomach, chest and throat area to relieve symptoms.  Also, can be applied before bed to reduce symptoms and aid in sleep.

Supplements:

Supplements can be very beneficial for treating acid reflux. Following are some suggestions:

Terrazyme: Take with every meal to aid the body with proper digestion of foods.

TerraZyme  “…is a proprietary blend of active whole food enzymes and supporting mineral cofactors that are often deficient in cooked, processed, and preservative-laden foods. TerraZyme’s powerful combination of digestive enzymes support the body’s constant production of enzymes critical for healthy biochemical functions throughout the body including healthy digestion of food nutrients and cellular metabolism of nutrients to energy. TerraZyme includes a variety of whole-food enzymes that help with digestion of proteins, fats, complex carbohydrates, sugars and fiber” (From doTerra website)

GX Assist and PB assist: Cleanse and renew the body to get the digestive system back on track.  “Start with GX Assist® GI cleansing formula for the first 10 days as a preparatory cleansing step before using PB Assist®+ probiotic defense formula to help maintain a healthy digestive system.” (From doTerra website)

Acid reflux is frequently caused by a bacteria called H.Pylori and studies have shown that lemon grass essential oil is more effective at killing it than antibiotics.  Also, the bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics but not to lemon grass essential oil.  Because of this, doing a cleanse using Gx Assist followed by PB Assist will be very beneficial in treating acid reflux.

To treat acid reflux and heartburn in children and infants:

Dilute 50/50 with coconut oil or another carrier oil.  Rub DigestZen on the bottoms of infant or child's feet, stomach and/or chest.  (Protect baby from touching the area and rubbing eyes).  Can also let infant suck on finger with diluted DigestZen. Peppermint oil used in the same way is also beneficial.

NOTE:  Please use only CPTG essential oils.  Other oils you buy are typically not 100% pure therapeutic grade and should not be ingested and should be used with caution.

Please do not categorize pregnancy as a medical condition. It is a HEALTHY function of the female body, not a malady. The inability to conceive is a medical condition, fertility is not. The classification of pregnancy as a medical condition is driving the medical industry to limit womens birth choices by restricting access to natural birth attendants (i.e., midwives) and is leading to the unjust prosecution of those attendants. Thanks! :)
