The doTerra Answer to Candida

It is estimated that 80% of all Americans suffer with chronic Candida.  Wow!  That is pretty staggering!

What is exactly is Candida?
Candida Albicans (Candida) is a benign, sugar-fermenting yeast that mostly resides in the digestive tract.  It is an important part of our intestinal ecology but only when it is present in small amounts.  It can be helpful for digestion and synthesis of enzymes and vitamins but when Candida becomes overgrown, it becomes parasitic.  It then colonizes in the digestive tisues and causes chronic inflammation and many health problems.

What causes Candida to overgrow?
Exposure to toxic metals.
Internal toxins from poor digestion.
Stress.
Consumption of refined carbohydrates, alcohol and caffeine.
Large amounts of sugar.
Mushrooms can increase the fungal population in the digestive tract.
Sushi introduces infection of other parasitic organisms.
Antibiotics kill all the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria that reside in your digestive tract.
Immunosuppressive drugs such as chemotherapy, steroids, synthetic estrogens and progesterone, birth control pills and xeno estrogens.
Mercury fillings.
Upset in intestinal pH from acid blocking medications
Decreasing digestive enzymes.
Decreasing hydrochloric (HCL) acid as we age.

What are the symptoms of Candida?
Candida has many symptoms.  Some symptoms are:

Emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, irritability, and hyperactivity.
Respiratory problems such as asthma, coughs and sinus issues.
Digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, heartburn, indigestion, intestinal pain, nausea and bad breath.
Skin issues such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, hives, rashes, fingernail and toenail fungus,
Mental issues such as confusion, brain fog, memory loss, insomnia and sleep issues.
Infections such as vaginal yeast infections and urinary tract infections.
Other problems such as headaches, migraines, cramps, sexual problems, chronic fatigue, hypoglycemia , infertility, allergies, chemical sensitivities, chronic fatigue, swollen joints, gout, food cravings (especially sugar) and weight gain.

Wow!

How can you tell if you have Candida?

An easy way to tell if you have Candida is to take this "spit test". Most doctors will have you take a survey from which they will calculate the likelihood of your having it.  Doctors can also take stool samples and blood and alergin tests.

I found a great description of how to do the spit test online at “Essential Oils For Life” :

"When you awake in the morning, before you put anything into your mouth, work up some saliva and spit it into a clear glass of water. Within 1-30 minutes, look in the glass. If there are strings coming down from your saliva, or if the water turned cloudy, or if your saliva sank to the bottom, you may have an overgrowth of Candida.
Healthy saliva will simply float on the top!
(You may want to put out a glass of water in the bathroom or on the nightstand the night before you wish to do the home Candida Saliva test, just to remind yourself not to brush your teeth prior to spitting into the glass.)
Why does this work?
Candida overgrowth begins in the colon. Over time, as the fungal yeast multiplies it begins to migrate through the digestive tract, moving up into the small intestine, then the stomach (bloating, indigestion), up the esophagus and into the mouth. If it becomes strongly entrenched there you can see a white film on your tongue and inside your cheeks. Once it has moved up to the mouth and you spit into a glass of water the yeast will sink because it is heavier than water. If there is no yeast it will float on top."

If, based on the spit test, you think you have Candida, you may want to take this survey and also and check with your doctor:
Use the following protocol to get rid of Candida:
1-Eat a healthy diet and avoid foods that feed yeast such as simple sugars and starches.

2-Exercise regularly to get more oxygen.

3- Get plenty of rest and reduce stress.  You can use soothing oils such as Lavender, Balance, and Serenity to alleviate stress.

4-Add a drop of lemon oil to each glass of water as you drink throughout the day to help get rid of toxins.

5- Take a few drops of cilantro essential oil every day to get rid of heavy metals you may have in your body.  Heavy metals such as mercury make it very difficult to get rid of candida.  You can also try Dr. Hill’s formula to get rid of heavy metals (a gel cap 2x a day filled with a couple of drops each of cinnamon, cloves, cassia and oregano).

6-Take a gel cap filled with two drops each of  lemon, melaleuca and oregano 2-3 times a day or two drops each of lemon, cassia and rosemary.  Both combinations are excellent.

7-If you suffer from skin irritations such as eczema or psoriasis (symptoms of Candida),make an ointment out of 1 teaspoon extra virgin coconut oil, 20 drops lavender (relieves itching), 20 drops geranium (soothes and revitalizes) and 20 drops melaleuca (if you suspect bacterial infection) and apply topically to the affected areas. (Recipe from http://mydoterracomessentialsuk.blogspot.com.)

8 -Cleanse the body with the GX Assist for ten days followed by the PB Assist for five days then rest for at least ten days and then repeat as needed:

GX Assist–cleanses and restores your digestive tract by clearing out the yeast and bad bacteria.

PB Assist-restores the good bacteria that the Candida has overtaken. Take for 5 days.

9 -Also take the following:

Zendocrine-cleans the toxins from your liver and kidneys, manages the die-off symptoms and gets rid of the yeast.

Terrazyme-weakens the outer wall of the yeast and digests it as it dies off reducing the die-off symptoms Take one before meals as well as one in the morning and one before bed on an empty stomach.
